Poverty

Dear distributors of world cinema,

I'm done with movies about rural poverty. Mining in particular holds absolutely no interest for me. Yes poverty is an important issue (Lord how we all know that), but come on. Even in there poorest countries not everyone is destitute. Let's hear about those people every now and then.

How about some popular cinema, you know, the movies the people in those countries actually watch? Sure most of it is probably derivative Hollywood style crap (or dubbed actual Hollywood crap). But hey, the way that derivative crap is handled will surely tell us just as much about the national culture as a feature length film about a poor farmer trying to find his cow.

Urban poverty, which is typically slightly more dynamic, is only on notice.
